Some Scimitar History

I ran across this post while looking for another one, thought it was Cool, and pasted it up top.

(pasted)

How Exciting .... for me anyway,  Don Ayd saw the pic's of my Scimiter on the FiberGlassics site and made this post ... and Quess What ?  It is my boat

Don Ayd (Don)  wrote:Hi Red, I saw your Scimitar about 20plus years ago in the upper Chesapeake Bay arround the Sassafras river it was comming directly at me at a pritty fast pace and i thought, what was that!! At the time I had an 18ft. Swinger. I had never seen one before but thought it was wild. It was beautiful and I knew I had to have one. I got talking to the owner he told me that he bought it new in Baltimore at a dealer called Smith Marine. If I remember correctly he said it was an 81. I immediately went to the dealer to find out more about this futuristic Scimitar. He told me that he sold a total of three, a green 1980 that went to the Annapolis area, a bronze 1981 that went north to Harford county I'm certain this is yours and a bronze 1982 that went to a comercial airline pilot on Marylands' eastern shore near St.Michaels. For years I looked for one all over the Md.Pa.De.Nj.Va. region. Finaly in 2000 I stumbled uppon a six month old add in a local St.Michaels newspaper for the 82 while on a weekend getaway. Called the guy this was in February went right to his house snow on the ground made him an offer and took it home without hearing it run. I've been happy with it ever since. Mine looks identical to yours except for yours has a rear stern rail thats not completly arround the perimiter of the sun louge where as mine is maybe yours was modified at some point or mine was modified I'm not sure. When I saw yours back in 86 or 87 I don't remember how the stern rail was but it did not have any bottom paint on it the guy told me he kept it on a trailer in his garage. I hope this helps with any history you may want to know but I only saw your boat one time. I'm curious, when did you buy yours? I'v been up and down the Chesapeake Bay for years and have never seen another one. Every time I traveled up north to the upper reaches of the bay I would pay particular attention to the areas where I thought I might see yours again. Good luck with your tasks and have fun... Don Ayd

Thanks Don for a little history,  The Smith Marine sticker is still on the boat up under the step ... I Accidently found the add for this boat on BoatTrader on line, while updating the links page on my site,  it was listed as a CV-23, but it said "Look like James Bond driving this boat"  so I clicked on the add and there it was, that was on a Sunday but they answered the phone, and I sent em a deposit Monday morning, Sept 17th 2007.  The very next day sit was posted on the FigerGlassics site that Scimiter Found, and I like to have Died, cause I had only just sent  the deposit.  I had been looking for one of these boats for about 10 or 12 years that I could afford.  I went and picked it up about two weeks later.  The boat was in Chesapeak City, Md. actually, Randalia,  (3148 mile round trip) at the Boat Warehouse, and had been setting out side there for about two years just rotting away, but it had been covered part of that time.  Apparently.  the original owner had a couple more boats around there, and it has been in the Chesapeake bay area all it's life.  I got all the original paperwork with it,  the title had been transfered to the Boat Warehouse, because it had been traded in on another boat.  Brian, there at the boat warehouse, owners son, is a Great Guy,  I didn't like the salesman very much, but Brian made it happen for me.  He dug the boat out for the back of the boatyard, and picked it up with the biggest forklift in the World, set it back some on the trailer for the trip home.  It had a few drunk bumps on it, they used it to cruise around when they were partying so they didn't bang up their nice expensive boats.  Funny, kinda, but one time, while Brian was towing the Scimitar from Baltimore, one of the "T" Tops blew off it,  Brian paid about $700 to have it made and replaced, shortly after that was done, he got the boat in trade,  good for me.   Thanks again Don,  it tickles me to know a little more about the history of my boat.   See the Projects Page to see what I've done to it so far,  I have a new motor built for it thats going in when I finish the transom that will be putting out 360 / 380 hp,  I'm anxious to see what it acts like with that thing in it.
