Here's a better looking video of my boat  ... Gittin- it !

I had to add this,  the boat running the video is a 1977 baja with a Built 460 ford motor, and the yellow boat has a 700hp 502 chevy,  it took him a while, but he went around me like I was broke down,  he's running in the 90's

I remember those props,  from way back,  I thought you might have something new,  and Yes ... I don't think they make them any more, there just a few problems with them, like you didn't want to get into any sand, and they didn't take bumps very well, close tolerances.  Good Hole shot though, but when you had the horse power to Go .. it just flattened out the blades like you were taking off again.

I took my boat out last Saturday and it probably ran it's best speed ever,  three of us on board and the speedo ran around to to left side of the M at the bottom of the speedometer .. mph.  my gps shuts down from the vibration of the waves .. so I can't tell how fast it's really going.

70 mph are you serious? It's been a while since I've had my boat on the lake, but I've never seen more than a tad over 50 mph. The thing with the variable prop is at high rpm it doesn't open up to full pitch (23) more like about 19-21 since the blades are centrifugal spring cam activated. Does wonders for mid rpm cruising though. As for the hole-shot, with the passenger seat turned around it'll toss an unsuspecting guest right into the back seat! I used to have the box that the prop came in with the stock Mercruiser prop in it. If I can find it or read the model and specs off the prop I'll post it for you. I bought the prop over ten years ago, so they might not even be available anymore.

I'd be intrested in knowing more about that varible pitch prop .. I don't really know what mine is, it was birthed as a Power Tech 23 pitch, but it has had severel surgeries since then.  I'm turning it 5300 rpm and running in the 70's.  I would like a better hole shot ... here's a video

Hi all. I live in Northern Alberta, Canada and am the proud owner of an '81 in Perian orange. It needs some exterior cosmetic work, but the boat itself is pretty much mint mechanically. Hoping to pick up some info and ideas from the gang here to assist and bring my baby up to snuff again. I've seen some photos of swim ladders that mount to the left rear step section but have never found out where they come from. If I can find the picture again, I'll post it and maybe someone can tell me where to get one. One tip I have for Scimitar owners is the prop I have. I use a Michigan 3 blade variable pitch (15-23).  It gives the boat a fantastic hole-shot (comparable to a 16' runabout with a 140 o/b and a 17" pitch ss), and really reduces rpm in cruise reducing fuel burn.
